Download DS Games – 4 Tips For Success When Downloading & Installing Psp Games
DS Download February 16th, 20104 Tips For Success When Downloading & Installing Psp Games
Downloading games, movies and other files for your PSP can save you a lot of money. There are many excellent services available for files, but installing your new found PSP goodies can be confusing. Here is a list of things you should know to ensure the process runs smoothly:
Firmware Versions
All PSP machines come with their own operating systems (Firmware). Anytime you want to install a file onto your PSP, you will have to be sure it is going to be compatible with your Firmware. To find out which Firmware version your PSP is running:
Press the ‘Home’ button located on the front / bottom left of your PSP
Choose ‘Settings’
Choose ‘System Information’
This will bring up several pieces of information about your PSP including MAC Address, Nickname and System Software version (this the Firmware version).
Depending on the file(s) you want to install on your PSP, you can run into problems with installation because of your Firmware version. Sometimes, ‘homebrew’ games (games that are produced by consumers on commercial game systems – some of these games are typically labeled as freeware) are compatible with Firmware version 1.5 and under only.
memory Sticks
Because game files can be large, you will want to consider purchasing a large(er) memory stick for your PSP if you are going to do a great deal of downloading. Sony now offers a 16 GB version of the Memory Stick PRO Duo, which is an excellent choice for extended storage.
File Types
When downloading games, they will usually be compressed. Depending on if you are using a Mac or PC to download your games, you will need to use a compression utility to uncompress the file. Mac uses Stuff it Expander and PC’s use Winzip to do this.
Once you have unzipped the downloaded file, you will need to make sure that the game file is in “psp” format. This is the only format that will work on your PSP. Within the file package you will also find a “readme” file from the maker of the game. Please be sure to always read these files – they can really help the installation process run smoothly.
File Management & Placement
Now that you are ready to install your new psp game file, there are a few steps you must follow.
If you do not have
1000
a “PSP” and/or “GAME” folder on your memory stick, you need to create them (in ALL CAPITALS – very important!) first.
You need to connect your PSP to your computer via the USB connection. Then you can navigate to the ‘Settings’ and USB Connection, and press “X”. This should connect your PSP to your computer so you can copy the file onto your PSP (PSP > Game). You must add the game file to this location on the PSP! No other location will work.
VOILA! Your new psp game is now loaded onto your PSP and ready to play!!
