RALEIGH, 15 de outubro (Reuters Life!) – À medida que a recessão prejudica as vendas de videogames em lojas, os consumidores optam por fazer mais downloads de jogos e economizar dinheiro, sem deixar de se divertir.
As vendas de videogames caíram 14 por cento nos Estados Unidos nos primeiros oito meses de 2009, de acordo com o NPD Group, e os consumidores passaram a fazer mais downloads de videogames para seus computadores, consoles e aparelhos portáteis, tais como PSP, Nintendo DSi, iPod Touch e iPhone.
“O número de jogos casuais disponíveis para download cresceu exponencialmente e o número de downloads premium parece estar aumentando entre 50 e 100 por cento anualmente,” disse Michael Pachter, analista de videogames da Wedbush Morgan Securities.
A Nintendo, que está na vanguarda em termos de atrair novos consumidores para os jogos, facilitou aos proprietários do Wii e DSi baixar títulos da WiiWare, como “Tetris Party,” e DSiWare, como “A Little Bit of Dr. Mario.”
Em 1o de outubro, a Sony Computer Entertainment passou a vender seu novo PSPgo, que elimina o UMD (Universal Media Disc) de seus modelos anteriores de PSP em troca de downloads digitais.
Além de oferecer jogos completos como o “Gran Turismo,” da Sony, e o “Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny,” da Namco Bandai, os jogadores podem baixar “minijogos,” como “Sudoku,” da Electronic Arts, e “Fieldrunners,” da Subatomic Studios, por preços de entre cinco e nove dólares.
Pachter acredita que a maior ameaça no que tange ao download de jogos seja o iPod Touch. Ainda que o aparelho custe mais caro que um Nintendo DS e a qualidade dos jogos seja em geral bem baixa, ele afirmou que a proposta de valor do aparelho é incrível.
“O iPod Touch começa a ser veiculado como aparelho para jogos, e os consumidores preocupados com custos terminarão por apreciar a economia que ele oferece, com o passar do tempo,” disse Pachter.
O gênero de jogos de música, criado pelo “Guitar Hero,” da Activision Blizzard, criou uma fonte firme de receita para as produtoras de videogames.
